The Indian stock market will open for an hour on Sunday for the Muhurat Trading session, as investors welcome Samvat 2083, making their first trades on this auspicious occasion. Analysts have advised investors to take selective positions during the special session on Diwali.Stock exchanges BSE and NSE are set to hold the Muhurat Trading session from 2.20 pm to 3.30 pm on Sunday. The closing auction schedule will begin at 3:15 pm, with reference price calculations and subsequent order entry and matching periods extending until 3:35 pm.Muhurat Trading is an age-old Diwali tradition that involves a short one-hour trading session marked by low volumes. Investors trade during this auspicious start of the new financial year, which coincides with Lakshmi Puja across several parts of the country. Also read | Muhurat trading 2026: Date, time, settlement rules, and other key things to knowThe session comes after a week of skyrocketing rally, during which Sensex surged a whopping 6,569 points while Nifty rallied nearly 9%. The sharp gains added nearly Rs 29 lakh crore to the total market capitalisation of all companies listed on BSE in just one week, pushing it above Rs 500 lakh crore mark. While the rally over the past one week has injected fresh optimism, the market is however still sharply down since Diwali last year as multiple headwinds including AI worries, surging oil prices amid raging Middle East conflict and others hit Dalal Street overall this year. Investors now eye Samvat 2083 to unlock a much-needed bull run. Also read | Sensex surges 6,500 points, Nifty skyrockets 9% as bumper week drives Rs 29 lakh crore gainsTrading strategy for Muhurat Trading sessionIndian equities enter the new Samvat on an improving note, supported by a sharp six-session recovery, renewed FII buying and easing crude prices. However, global technology-led volatility and geopolitical uncertainties warrant some caution, said Ajit Mishra, SVP of Research at Religare Broking. “We expect the broader market outlook to remain cautiously positive, with intermittent consolidation after the recent rally.”Investors should use Muhurat Trading session to initiate selective positions in fundamentally strong companies rather than chase momentum, the analyst said, adding that a staggered, buy-on-dips approach with preference for quality large-caps and earnings visibility would be prudent for Samvat 2083.Muhurat trading should be approached with a quality-first, long-term investment strategy rather than short-term speculation, said Ravi Singh, Chief Research Officer at Master Capital Services. He added that investors can use this auspicious session to accumulate fundamentally strong companies with healthy earnings visibility and reasonable valuations.“Positive momentum could extend into Muhurat trading, supported by the recent market recovery and improving investor sentiment. However, the one-hour session is often driven by sentiment and relatively limited participation, so a positive close should not be interpreted as confirmation of a sustained rally,” the analyst said, adding that investors should avoid chasing sharp intraday moves, use limit orders and deploy capital gradually. The focus should remain on quality businesses and long-term wealth creation rather than treating Muhurat trading as an opportunity for aggressive short-term bets, according to Singh.Technical view on NiftyOn the technical front, Nifty continued to hold above its 200-day EMA for the fourth consecutive session on Friday, and the RSI sustained its upward trajectory above 60, while the rising MACD and an uptick in ADX reinforced strengthening momentum and improving trend conviction, said SBI Securities. The 24,830-24,850 zone will act as immediate support for Nifty, according to the brokerage, while adding that a decisive breakdown below this range could trigger profit booking towards 24,700. “On the upside, 25,150–25,180 remains the immediate hurdle. A sustained breakout above this zone could extend the rally towards 25,350,” it further said. Also read | Nifty’s 8% surge this week is the best since January 2021.
